Description:
The narrow strip of land connecting the US to South America is called Central America. Chains of mountains and active volcanoes are located all along the land bridge. In the north there are cool, high plateaus and hot deserts, while the wetter south is home to tropical rainforests. The warm Caribbean waters that wash the southeast coast of this region are home to two groups of tropical islands - the Greater and Lesser Antilles, while the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean - together, these island groups make up the Caribbean region.
