Description:
The land that stretches from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean Sea is known as Central Europe. The Alps, a range of snow-covered mountains, cut this land in two along the middle. The area to the north of this divide includes the cool, forested plains of Germany and Poland. To the south is Italy, a long peninsula of land surrounded by warm sea, including the Mediterranean. Until the end of the Cold War, this region was divided politically into east and west by ‘the Iron Curtain’
