Megalodons are only known from their teeth and vertebrae, from which it has been deduced that they lived 2-20 million years ago. Their teeth are several times larger than those of the great white shark, which suggests that megalodons must have been formidable predators during their lifetimes. They died out at the same time as the dinosaurs, about 65 million years ago.
